What is
Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a type of wireless technology that is currently used
as a standard means of exchanging different kinds of data over small distances. This technology is usually
utilized by mobile and fixed devices, and is used to create PANs, or, personal area
networks.
These networks are said to have very high security levels, and
are said to be pretty reliable and easy to use for those with the proper equipment. A lot of mobile devices
actually use Bluetooth for a number of different things.
For example, people can send songs to each other with Bluetooth
technology if doing so is not blocked for copyright reasons. You can even use the technology with Bluetooth speakers, to send the
music without cords!
The Bluetooth technology was developed by Ericsson in 1994.
Ericsson was a vendor for Telecom at the time, and originally developed the data transferring technology to
replace cables that were known as RS-232 cables. Bluetooth is now organized by a group called the Bluetooth
Special Interest Group, which is not affiliated with this site.
Technically, Bluetooth utilizes a radio technology that many have
come to call frequency hopping spread spectrum. This method pretty much breaks up data that is being sent and
is responsible for transmitting pieces to fit over several bands of a 1 MHz width of a certain
range.
As far as connection and communication goes, wireless user groups
are broken up into networks of up to eight devices. This network is made up of one master Bluetooth device
and seven others. This setup is called a piconet, and the role of master can be acquired by any device in the
piconet by agreement.
